SOUTHEASTERN COOPERATIVE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS (SECEP), a regional public school program located in the Tidewater Area of Virginia, is an organization that provides services for students with special needs.  SECEP currently operates five programs: The Re-ED Program for children that exhibit severe emotional/behavioral difficulties, the Autistic Children’s Program for children who exhibit characteristics of autism, or developmental disabilities with communication and social skills deficits, the EBICS program for children who exhibit disruptive behavior, in addition to the diagnosis of moderate to severe mental retardation, the TRAEP Program which provides academic instruction to children who have been expelled from school, who have had multiple, long-term suspensions, or who are in need of transitional placement when returning from a state learning center, and the REACH Program which provides a high quality educational program that maximizes potential for students with complex medical needs who live in residential settings.

POSITION TITLE: EDUCATION SPECIALIST – ACP/EBICS PROGRAMS – ANTICIPATED OPENING FOR 2011-12SY AND 2012-13SY

(11 MONTH POSITION)

This position is responsible for curriculum development, instructional leadership, and support to the classrooms and students. This individual must be knowledgeable in research based teaching strategies. Qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Education plus two years direct teaching experience specific to autism, intellectual disability, and severe behavior problems. ABA training and experience preferred.

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

Salary Range - $49,194 to $76,901; Life Insurance, Retirement, Health Insurance, Sick Leave, and Personal Leave.

POSITION TITLE: TEACHERS – RE-ED AND TRAEP PROGRAMS

The Teacher provides direct classroom instruction to students with special needs in grades 6-12.  Qualifications include a bachelor's degree in English, Math, Science, or Social Studies. Individuals must be fully licensed and highly qualified; plus have the desire to work with students with special education needs, specifically, emotional disturbance, learning disabilities, and a history of school problems.

                                   

SOUTHEASTERN COOPERATIVE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS (SECEP)

IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2011-2012 SCHOOL YEAR FOR THE FOLLOWING POSITIONS:

TEACHERS

The Teacher provides direct classroom instruction, developing and implementing individual educational and behavioral programs for students with special education needs. 

ACP - Teachers for students diagnosed with moderate to severe autism, autism spectrum disorder, or a disability that is related to autism.  Students range in age from 2 to 21.

EBICS - Teachers for students diagnosed with mental retardation and exhibit aggressive and/or severe disruptive behavior in the classroom.  Students range in age from 2 to 21.

REACH - The R.E.A.C.H. Program (Raising Expectations and Abilities for Children with Complex Health Needs) provides high quality instruction with integrated assistive technology, speech therapy and occupational and physical therapy to students living in residential facilities.  This program currently operates at Lake Taylor Hospital and St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children.   

Qualifications for the teacher positions above include a bachelor's degree in Special Education, and eligibility for Virginia Licensure with endorsement in special education.

RE-ED - Teachers for students diagnosed with emotional disturbance and have been unable to maintain appropriate behavior control in previous placements.  Students range in age from 5 to 21. 

TRAEP - Teachers for students who have been expelled from school, who have multiple long-term suspensions or who are in need of a transitional placement when returning from commitment to a juvenile justice system.  Grades 6-12 are served in TRAEP.

Qualifications for teacher positions in Re-ED and TRAEP include a bachelor's degree in Special Education or licensable by the Virginia Department of Education in English, Math, Science or Social Studies.  Other areas of licensure can be used when combined with extensive experience with the population of students served. 

 

SPEECH AND LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

The SLP is responsible for developing individual communication programs for students with special education needs.  Experience in communication and speech/language programming, teacher/parent consultation and speech and language assessment is required. Qualifications include a Master’s Degree with certification in Speech and Language Disorders. 

 

SALARY FOR THE 10 MONTH SPEECH POSITION LISTED ABOVE:  $41,053 TO $67,228 (2010-11 SALARY SCALE); LIFE INSURANCE, HEALTH INSURANCE, RETIREMENT, SICK LEAVE AND PERSONAL LEAVE.

Occupational Therapists

SECEP is seeking Occupational Therapists who have an interest in working in an educational environment with a large population of K-12 students with Autism and Multiple Disabilities. The OT is responsible for direct services.  The SECEP OT will also provide consultative services and general classroom support.

 

Salary Range: $42,695 - $73,951; Life Insurance, Retirement, Health Insurance, Sick Leave, and Personal Leave.

 

The positions will remain open until filled.

     

Occupational Therapist & Occupational Therapist Asst.

 

SECEP is a Regional K-12 Special Education Program serving students with autism, emotional disabilities and multiple disabilities

 

Must be certified and licensed in Virginia.  COTA must have 2-year degree in OT Assistant.  Experience in pediatrics and school preferred. 

OT salary range: $42,695-$73,951; COTA salary range: $25,724 – $43,865.

SUBSTITUTE TEACHER ASSISTANT - ALL PROGRAMS

The Teaching Assistant position provides assistance to teachers in the daily management and instruction of the students.  The assistant is responsible for performing a variety of tasks in order to help facilitate the daily classroom instruction and activities.  The assistant closely monitors the needs of the students including basic personal needs, safety, physical help, and observation and reporting of student behavior.
